Footbridges: taking into account human induced vibrations.

Pierre Argoul

Résumé

More and more slender, and with longer span, contemporary footbridges are submitted to new external conditions and surroundings. The issue of unexpected oscillations occurred during their opening day, for the Léopold Sédar Senghor bridge in Paris, and on a larger scale, for the Millennium bridge in London show that how nowadays, the study of the dynamics of footbridges under human induced excitations is still important; at the heart of structural concerns of civil engineers and architects in design offices but also of researchers in structural dynamics in research laboratories.
